Defence Bank - Background

Background

Since commencing operations in 1975, Defence Bank has been dedicated to giving back to the Defence community by supporting Defence charities, community events and family activities. Over many years, Defence Bank has provided a significant level of funding and support to Legacy, RSL, Veteran Associations, Soldier Recover Centres, Mates 4 Mates and a wide variety of other Army, Navy and Air Force charities. In addition, during the 9 years from 2004-2013, the Defence Bank supported the Defence Special Needs Support Group (DSNSG) by providing over $630,000 of funding.

In recent years, The Defence Bank recognised the need to support serving and ex-serving members of The Australian Defence Force who have been physically or mentally wounded as a result of serving their country. To meet this need, The Defence Bank Foundation was established in 2012.

How we have helped

Previous Programs

The Foundation's first major sponsorship was The Young Diggers Dog Squad. Throughout the 2-year sponsorship, the Foundation helped over 200 serving and ex-serving Defence members suffering from Post-traumatic Stress Disorder by providing them with specially trained Companion Dogs. This initiative was also supported by over 100 generous businesses and individuals who sponsored a dog. You can view some of the dogs rescued and trained through this program here.

Defence Bank staff continue to be significant supporters of the Defence Bank Foundation. Their skills, knowledge and fund-raising efforts are greatly appreciated by the Foundation.

Current Programs

Our primary beneficiary in 2017 is the Defence Community Dogs Program which supports Veterans living with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
